Spring Awakening in Greene County

When the thick blanket of snow starts to melt from the mountaintops, Greene County begins its spring awakening. Flowers push through the greening grass, sap flows in the sugar maples, the countryside comes alive with the trill of returning birds and water gushes over Kaaterskill Falls, New York State's highest cascading waterfall.

Early spring is an excellent time to visit our art galleries and craft centers where artisans have been hard at work over the winter months. As the days lengthen and the air warms, golfers may want to play a few rounds at one of our nine Greene County golf courses. Anglers can test their skills on more than 50 wild trout streams encompassing some 200 miles of incredible fly fishing when trout season opens in April.

Spring also kicks off the Greene County festivals season. Check out the craft microbrews and fine food at Tap NY at Hunter Mountain in April and the Irish Festival and Corvette Spring Fling & Car Show in East Durham. Don't miss Cat 'n Around Catskill when over 60 feline statues hand-decorated by local artists strut their stuff on Main Street in Catskill starting on Memorial Day. No doubt about it, spring is sweet in Greene County.
